      <image:title>Blog - What is a Pediatric Sleep Consultant?</image:title>
<image:caption>We will work together to create a plan that works for your child. There is no “one size fits all” option (I’ve learned that firsthand with 3 kids of my own!). Your child’s personality and your parenting philosophies are key factors as I create the custom sleep plan. Each situation is different, and it is essential to tailor the service to each family. This is a judgement free zone! I will always stay neutral in the process. I am your trustworthy guide and friend.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Wake Windows and Schedules</image:title>
<image:caption>If your little one is awake for too long between naps, you will have an overtired child and it will be harder for them to fall asleep. How do I use a wake window for my baby? Newborns sleep a lot! Their body clocks are just starting to figure out day and night. Babies who are 2 or 3 months old are taking anywhere between 4 to 6 (or more!) naps a day. In this case, we would use wake windows to guide their daily routines.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Wake Windows and Schedules</image:title>
<image:caption>How do I set a schedule for my baby, toddler or preschooler? Use this chart as a guide! All children are different, but this is typically what we see for sleep needs. I recommend using your child’s appropriate wake window to create a set schedule for them. You will take into consideration how many daily hours of sleep they should be getting as well as how many naps a day they will need.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Wake Windows and Schedules</image:title>
<image:caption>As a former teacher, I know that children thrive on a routine and a schedule. When they have a daily schedule and can expect when they will be eating, learning, sleeping or just playing, they are happier and healthier. On top of that, it allows mom and dad to plan and schedule out their day as well. This helps when it comes to organizing lunch dates, doctor visits, etc. If you plan around your baby’s nap time, you won’t have a fussy or tired baby when you are out and about.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Short Nap Dilemma - Baby is Hungry</image:title>
<image:caption>It is so important to make sure that your little one is taking in a FULL feeding of milk at every feeding. Lots of “snacks” throughout the day will not fill them up. A full feeding every 3 or 4 hours (depending on the age of your baby) will keep your baby sleeping longer and keep them on a feeding schedule. Feeding your baby when they are fully awake and alert will ensure that they are getting all that they need. For older babies, giving meals, or “solids”, three times a day is helpful for full bellies and sleep too!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - The Short Nap Dilemma</image:title>
<image:caption>It is important to put your child to sleep when they are ready for sleep! The body makes melatonin (a natural sleep hormone) when it is getting prepared for sleep. If the wake window is missed, the body will push away the natural melatonin and begin to create cortisol (a stress related hormone) to help keep that babe awake longer! It gives an extra boost of energy, and it makes it even harder to fall asleep. Overtired children do not sleep better – they often wake up in the night or have shorter naps. Then, the cycle can repeat itself.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Travel Tips for Little Ones - Set Up the Sleep Environment. When you get to your destination, set up your child’s sleep environment in their space. Is your little one able to have their own sleeping area? If there aren’t enough bedrooms, even a large closet or bathroom could work! If the bedroom or sleeping area lets in a lot of light, you could put up a towel or extra sheet in the window to make the room as dark as possible.</image:title>
<image:caption>Set up the pack ‘n play. Make sure it is not close to something that your child can pull or reach. Adjust the temperature, plug in the sound machine and set up the monitors. I like to set up the sleep environment well before bedtime so that our first night in our new space isn’t rushed.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Travel Tips for Little Ones - Is your family taking any end of summer trips? A few weeks ago, we drove to 13 hours to visit family in Tennessee (quite challenging with 3 kids!). Now, we are in Cape Cod (just a quick hour drive!) for a few weeks to close out summer.</image:title>
<image:caption>No matter how far or how close you are going, travel can shake things up a bit. A new environment, new people, and new things to do can be exciting, but also stimulating, especially for little ones. Schedules tend to change a bit (or a lot - depending!) and new sleep situations can also be challenging.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Keeping Your Toddler in The Crib - Sometimes toddlers can be difficult to reason with. Having full access to everything in their bedroom (and possibly the house) could be dangerous. We want to keep them safe and focused on sleep.</image:title>
<image:caption>If your toddler has tried to climb out more than once, it is definitely unsafe for them in the crib and it is time for them to move to a bed. We have kept our 3.5 year old in his crib, because it is still working for us. My daughter (who is now 5), needed to transition a little bit before she turned 3.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Keeping Your Toddler in The Crib - Here are a few more tricks that you can do to keep your toddler safe and cozy in their crib… Try this!!</image:title>
<image:caption>First, we will adjust the position of the crib. Find a corner of your toddler’s room. Place the crib there and turn the crib around. The taller “backside” of the crib will be facing the room and the shorter “frontside” will now be against the wall. Once it is in the corner of the room, only one of the four sides will be short. This could help deter them from climbing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Preparing for Daylight Savings - Super Prep! In this method, you would start on the Wednesday before the time change. Each morning, allow your child to stay in bed 15 minutes longer each day. At bedtime, you would put your child to bed 15 minutes later each night. Gradually, by the time you reach the weekend, you child should be adjusted to a later bedtime and a later wake time.</image:title>
<image:caption>For example, if your child typically goes to bed at 7 pm, you would put them to bed at 7:15 pm on Wednesday night, then 7:30 on Thursday night, and so on. *See the chart for extra guidance!*</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Preparing for Daylight Savings - Here are some things to make note of:</image:title>
<image:caption>On the “new time”, our children’s bodies (and our bodies too!) will start to feel tired an hour earlier than their usual nap or bedtime. So, if their bedtime is typically at 7 pm, they will begin to feel sleepy around 6 pm. We are technically gaining an hour of sleep, but our children will still wake up when their bodies are used to waking up. So, if they usually wake up around 7 am, they will most likely wake up around 6 am on the new time.</image:caption>
